The largest eagle in the world. The Steller´s Sea eagle with a few "friends" sharing breakfast at Lake Furen.

With this eagle I posted the last species that I had on file from my trip to Japan. It was a bird photograhhy trip, not a birding trip. I still got myself  46 species on file. We were 13 people and the groups list of birds was 91. So I was able to photograph 46 out of 91. Slightly more then 50% :) .  Not bad as I had no chance of seeing them all.

This was supposed to be a post of the White- tailed Eagle but despite a LOT of images it was hard to single a specific bird out. But I guess my readers don´t mind :)
The White. tailed eagle is widespread. It is one of the eagles we have in Sweden also. The breakfast that is served is frozen fish.

This was a small place where they had wild owls coming in for dinner. It was arranged with special lighting that did not disturb the owls but let us take shots. We was in a cold shed where the windows could be taken out for a better view. It was COLD!
First evening we saw this male and the second night the male and later on one of his daughters. The owner of the place said that for the moment they had the male and 3 young ones coming almost every day.

These birds seemed to like it in Rausu even though it was cold. Not sure why they stay here in Japan as they leave my country when it gets cold.

Well. I´m no expert on gulls but in these shots I think I have Slaty-backed gull and one Glaucous-winged gull. And also one crow, Carrion crow.

A few female Red-breasted Merganser were swimming in the harbor.
In a way I think it is weired to travel that far just to find the same birds you have at home. Not that I see them often, but still.   :)

When we arrived at Rausu in the evening we had just a little daylight left. But still enough to see what was swimming among the boats. One species was the Harlequin duck. You can see how small it is compared to the small Red-breasted merganser joining them in the last shot. Small ones both species.

A very beautiful duck. There was supposed to be a pair but I don´t know if the female in the last image is his.  The duck seem to look a bit like a Teal.

This one was sitting in a tree all by itself. Just sitting there half asleep not bothered by all people watching it. Probably a well known bird world wide.
